Salvia Divinorum

Salvia Divinorum is known for its very strong effects, comparable to the use of LSD. The active substances in this plant are Salvinorin A and Salvinorin B. Salvinorin A is the strongest psychedelic agent that occurs in nature and by properly dosing you can vary the effect from a subtle stoned-like feeling to full psychedelic trips.

The plant itself originates from Mexico, where it can be found in shady and humid places in the Mazatec Mountains. For thousands of years, this plant has been used by the medicine men of the Mazatec Indians during religious rituals. One describes the effect as spiritual and pleasant, while the other can experience almost nothing or feels a very intense effect. Salvia Divinorum is legally available in various countries, including in the Netherlands, and of course it is inevitable at Worldherbals.

Using Salvia Divinorum

The traditional way to use salvia is to chew the leaves and then hold them under the tongue for 15-20 minutes. Then you spit it out. It is not the most effective method and usually requires 8 to 20 leaves. It also takes longer to feel the first effects; about 20 minutes.

Another method is heating 0.5 g (a large leaf) to 250°C. In this way the onset is very fast: 30 – 180 seconds.

Since Salvinorin A has a very strong psychedelic effect, it is not wise to start with large amounts. The effect on one will also be different from the effect on the other. For those reasons, it is very important that you get to know the plant well and know for yourself what the effects are on you. A dose that is too high can cause you to experience such an intense trip that you no longer know who or where you are. So start with a small dose of, for example, 0.1 – 0.5 grams. Using 2 or more grams is strongly discouraged, especially in the beginning.

Dosage and Effects

Because the effects of using Salvia Divinorum differ per person, it is difficult to give a good dose, but the S.A.L.V.I.A scale is a good indication and indicates what the effects are if you take a certain number of grams of Salvinorin A.

Level 1 Stoned: When you use 0.1 – 0.5 grams, you will experience effects similar to marijuana, including the well-known laughter kick. The experience is therefore very subtle and for some will feel like nothing is happening.
Level 2 Thinking differently: when you use 0.3 – 1 gram your thoughts will change and you will like music, colors and objects more beautiful. Laughter kicks are also common as well as a poor functioning of the short memory.
Level 3 LSD: when using 0.5 – 1.5 grams you will see vivid hallucinations, such as geometric figures when you close your eyes and moving patterns on the wallpaper.
Level 4 Flying: If you use 1 – 2 grams, you have reached the level that the medicine men are looking for. You ‘fly’, as it were, through different dimensions and you can completely forget reality. Medicine men believe that you are then taken to other worlds where you can learn about the past, present and future.
Level 5 Identity loss: If you use between 1 and 2.5 grams, you will get the feeling that you merge with, for example, the couch you are sitting on or your entire environment. You forget who or what you are and become one with the place where you are at that moment. For some, this can be ecstatic, while for others it can be very frightening.
Level 6 Amnesia: If you reach this level, you have used more than between 2 – 3 grams and you have actually gone too far. Because you don’t know where you are, this is very dangerous; you lose your memory, can become unconscious and sleepwalking is also common.
Effects

There are few known real side effects of taking Salvinorin A. In a small number of cases you may experience diarrhea, headache or bloating.

Storage advice

Safety
